¨

Thanks to Paula for the 200 bulbs she planted to beautify our neighborhood
Matching grants:
¨
Continue to seek matching grants like the one for the walking path from Genessee to the School ($54,000 in funding)
¨
Seek a grant for clearing out greenery on 21st Ave. SW and replace with perennial ground cover
¨
"Small Sparks" projects: small grants up to $250 to improve the neighborhood and only need a letter to request
¨
Other ideas: Bike path/walking trail to SSCC; possibly with DNDA; maybe from Chinese Garden through park area
PHILLIPPA NYE w/DNDA:
DNDA Proposes a plan to use the old Cooper School Buildings on Delridge for other things besides storage
Handed out synopsis about Old Cooper School
Open House was on Oct. 21, 2000 from 2 pm to 5 pm at Delridge Community Center
8 options were presented in handouts showing most feasible to least. The three most feasible were explained in detail:
1. Family housing on upper floors
¨
At $550 to $950 per unit
¨
Ground floors for cultural space ex. Artists/community space for rental/ performance space would stay intact for performance use/possibly gym rental
2. Artist's Loft for Sale (not rent)
¨
At $125,000 to $225,000 each
¨
Artists and cultural space available on ground floor
3. Motel Rooms and restaurant space, etc.
Questions arose concerning who might buy the property and what guarantees we would have about what will happen to it
Questions also about parking and traffic patterns on Delridge Ave.
Robert commented: City is committed to supporting communities and hopefully continue our influence. The sale of the school building would include stipulations that we can make about use.
McMiniman Projects in Portland were mentioned with favorable response
Another concern was about more rentals coming into the neighborhood and possibly not having as much ownership in the neighborhood
Any questions, comments, concerns, etc. can be sent to DNDA at www.dnda.org or they may be contacted at 206-923-0917.
SOUND TRANSIT:
¨
Now running from West Seattle to the AirportCalled Westside Express #570
HALLOWEEN:
¨
Encourage all to take a walk in the neighborhood on Halloween
¨
Encourage kids to enjoy our neighborhood
¨
People are very generous
PIGEON POINT NEWSLETTER AND WEBSITE:
Big thanks to Pete and Kerry for their work
Newsletter will come out 4 times per year
Distributed by neighbors
Suggested that we put some at Uptown Espresso for distribution
Question arose about "legality" of putting them in mailboxes:
¨
"Letter of the law" says it's illegal, but the post office has said they will not "stop us" they understand this is the easiest and most cost efficient way
for neighborhoods to distribute info
ENERGY SAVING LIGHT BULBS:
¨
Compliments of the city
¨
If you have not received yours please notify the Pigeon Point Council
RADIO TOWER UPDATE:
Reviewed previous info about tearing down current tower and replacing it with bigger/wider use (microwave, etc.)
Sterling Recreation Organization (SRO) has not returned phone calls on info about update on whether or not they can/will help
Basic issues are:
1. We will let you do this BUT first, you must provide filters for all phone lines affected and need to be for interference now and anytime in the future.
2. Landscaping issues maintained
3. If we prevent them we are left with status quono improvements and not be able to sell off land for single family homes.
Refer to Doug at Qwest to get phone filtered with the D-MARC
Cable signal problem may or may not be connected
Environmental impact statement (EIS) desired because of microwaves with health issues
Another question: Could we also ask for an EIS if we approve use?
SRO has not applied for a permit, as of yet, but input is necessary to happen soon to stay on top of this
Cooper School should be included in this decision
All parents have been sent out a letter about the tower and traffic patterns

CURTIS MAYER DEVELOPER:
¨

¨
Developer wants to build rental units on this site
¨

¨

¨
Lime kiln dust was illegally dumped for years on this site
¨
City Water denied a new water line because of the alkaline soil that would rot pipes
¨
20 years ago UW was asked if a road could be built through their property and they said No.
¨
At this point there is no good access to the area
FITNESS CENTER:
¨
New center being built across from the Steel Mill
¨
The company has made several strides to protect and improve the creek area
